@ozoned

I haven't had the best experience with PeerTube. Videos often fail to load, get stuck, etc. It seems to be rather unsuitable for larger amounts of data. I find the option with the subdomain and MP4 videos much more practical and accessible than using something like PeerTube.

Good idea.

@ozoned
> If they don't have a Peertube, is anyone thinking about, and allowed to, post these on a Peertube instance?

At the bottom of all the pages on video.fosdem.org there is a CC BY 2.0 (Belgium) license logo. Which suggests to me that anyone is free to copy the videos and host them elsewhere.

If in doubt, maybe check the metadata of videos for a CC license watermark? Or you could ask for confirmation by emailing them;

In the FAQ.txt in the 2026 folder;

https://video.fosdem.org/2026/FAQ.txt

... it says they've stopped uploading all the talk videos to YT because Goggle have made bulk uploading too hard (perhaps to stop people uploading years of low effort auto-generated clickbait). So they may well be interested in using a PT channel to replace that.

A PT service specifically for conference talks would be really useful.

As this comment points out, there were livestreams mirrored to that PeerTube instance. But from what I see, the streams on PeerTube did not get recorded, so we will have to wait for the recordings to be published on FOSDEM video site.

Maybe the problem was with the specific PT service(s) you tried to use, rather than with the software?

I've never had any problems watching video on PT services. I haven't tried uploading anything more than a few minutes long. But people upload entire documentaries with no issues AFAIK;

@zotheca@mementomori.social I run TubeFree.org and put my Fireside Fedi VODs up there as well have having other folks put their content there. I haven't had too many issues. But it's a very difficult problem as it's not just Peertube itself, but I've had to help troubleshoot ISP blocks, Web browser issues, etc.
