Just finished Enshitification by @pluralistic. While I did know the system and tech is broken I did not know how much. Learned a lot of new things about US Politics and how IP rules and non-circumvention laws help to enshitify tech.
Definitely a worthwhile read. And it ends with ideas how to fix it. And we all can have agency and can help.
My PTSD stems from my 6 yrs as a journalist. I was a emergency beat reporter and saw some gnarly things. Hard to sake 18 years later. #PTSD #Journalism #PoliceBeatReporter
OK, here's one with actual stakes:
Cutting a piece of wrapping paper and you need less than the full width. Do you cut:

Shout out to @AusSocialMods as Australia makes it to Christmas. Thank you for dealing with all the stuff we never see, and especially for the last couple of harrowing weeks of #auspol.
Time for Patel to answer for his lies.
The condescension and moral preening are getting all the glory in this email, but don’t sleep on the new head of CBS News declaring that the last 7 days were a “slow news week.”

In preparing for my most recent Supreme Court argument, I realized that I have something in common with the Court’s conservative members. Like them, I do not believe there should be “second-class” constitutional rights subject to judicial balancing. If…

To upgrade
To upgrade from 1.3.x:
git pull
git checkout v1.4.x
./deploy.sh or ./deploy-docker.sh
There is a big database migration that will take a few minutes to run. How long will vary depending on how old your instance is - older instances will have more content to process. It took ~25 minutes on piefed.social so expect it to be less than that.
Donations
PieFed is free and open-source software while operating without any advertising, monetization, or reliance on venture capital. Your donations are vital in supporting the PieFed development effort, allowing us to expand and enhance PieFed with new features.
Wishing a good Yuletide to all who celebrate.
I'm not a mountain biker, but - if anybody's wanting to go mountain biking within three miles of downtown Seattle, you absolutely can!

You can bike to get there, too. His way is pretty good but he does a couple of things he doesn't need to, and he could stay on bike lanes more if he didn't. (But his cuts do make it a little shorter.)
Also, the 1 Line gets you almost all the way there.
During the huge lowland snow of 1996 I saw people skiing on 25th Ave NE near University Village and so made SKI RAVENNA PARK stickers. This is like that, but mountain biking, and full time. :D

Donald Trump unveiled a new class of so-called “battleships” on Monday,
but his plans are already hitting rough waters on social media.
In remarks from his Mar-a-Lago estate, the president claimed that the two “Trump Class” military vessels would be
the “fastest, the biggest and by far 100 times more powerful than any battleship ever built.”
Trump described himself as
a “very aesthetic person” while noting that he,
along with the U.S. Navy,
would work on the design of the vessels.
Trump said the administration aims to make up to 25 of the ships,
thus adding to its goal of creating a “Golden Fleet.”
Renderings of the “USS Defiant” showed a vessel firing what appeared to be a laser beam and launching missiles.
The vessel featured an illustrated logo of Trump raising his fist,
as he did in the moments after the assassination attempt on him in Butler, Penn., last year.
Critics on social media,
including author and media pundit Malcolm Nance, a retired U.S. Navy intelligence officer,
pilloried Trump over the ship plans.
“WHOEVER DESIGNED THE TRUMP CLASS ‘BATTLESHIP’
GOT THE DESIGN FROM GI JOE,”
Nance wrote.
