On December 24, 1968, astronaut William Anders was photographing the surface of the moon from aboard the Apollo 8 lunar orbiter when he suddenly noticed something amazing. “Oh my God!” he exclaimed. “There’s the earth coming up! Wow, that’s pretty!” And then he turned his camera to the scene and took one of history’s most stunning and iconic photographs.
