The UK slams the ‘insulting’ X move to paywall a deepfake tool.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer attacked X’s decision to make its controversial AI image generation feature only available to users with paid subscriptions.

The prime minister said far from solving the problem of non-consensual deepfakes, X’s decision turned the issue into a “premium service”.

Platforms are the dominant religions of our time—not replacing belief, but centralizing authority.

Algorithms replace scripture.
Metrics replace virtue.
Terms replace commandments.
Moderation replaces clergy.
Guidelines replace doctrine.
Exile replaces damnation.

You don’t leave the platform.
You’re excommunicated from visibility.
That’s jurisdiction.

Dark square graphic stating ‘Platforms are the dominant religions of our time.’ Two side-by-side panels compare Organized Religion and Digital Platforms as systems of authority. Both define rules, create in-group and out-group boundaries, grant legitimacy, and punish dissent. Religion is shown as governed by clergy and institutions; platforms by algorithms, policies, and incentives. The graphic concludes that platforms now centralize authority and control visibility, becoming the infrastructure through which older religions and beliefs operate.
