"The most valuable resource of the 21st century is your attention – and no one cultivates it more efficiently than Mark Zuckerberg. In 2025, Meta generated $196 billion in advertising revenue."*

I especially like the first part of the sentence, i.e. #attention being the most valuable #resource these days - this is something you should internalise. It's an investors perspective and it's verisimilitude is confirmed by the company values of this industry ( #Meta , #Google, #Twitter, etc.).

From an individual perspective this is true as well - for you and me attention means #time, and time is the only resource we'll never be able to gain, we automatically lose it with every passing second.

It's therefore outrageous how much time people give away freely, to companies, who's business model is maximizing the time you spend on them. And just as a side note - apparently, according to the newsletter this quote is taken from, soon Meta will even ask you to pay for it. Absurd. Yet, in Germany the average #screentime is ~5h per day, with nearly 3h going to #socialmedia apps like #Facebook, #Instagram, #tiktok etc.

I wonder, what's your life worth to yourself?

Still enjoying #SmartphoneMinimalism.

The only #Fedi application I have on my phone is [FediPhoto-Lineage], which is upload-only.

Ok, I do have one more: I have Pixelix connected only to my Pixelfed in the rare case I need to post something that's not a photo (FediPhoto doesn't let you upload already-taken photos or screenshots, nor does it have a share-to screen), but it's blocked from coming up in my #KissLauncher history, and I almost never use it. So far, I've resisted any temptation to just scroll on it.

#ScreenTime for the past week on my phone has been 6h 38m. :D
My battery is lasting two full days, easily, and that's with only charging it to 80% and never letting it get below 20%, and some background processes running.

FediPhoto-Lineage | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository

FediPhoto-Lineage - quickly post photos to the Fediverse.

French lawmakers passed a bill banning social media for under-15s 📵
Also extends mobile phone ban to high schools; follows Australia's under-16 limit 🇫🇷
Focuses on protecting youth mental health from cyberbullying and screen addiction, though critics call it digital paternalism ⚖️

French lawmakers vote to ban social media use by under-15s

Legislation, which also bans mobile phones in high schools, would make France the second country after Australia to take such a step

Will Storr on compulsive use of technology

'Human psychology is eminently hackable – as dogs have learned over tens of thousands of years, and romance scammers have figured out in 20. As BJ Fogg predicted, “suggest, encourage, and reward” and we will be yours'

We have lost so much of ourselves to smartphones: can we get it back?

My use of mobile phones has been compulsive – has it been for better or for worse?
