I am now officially an iNaturalist ambassador πŸ‘¨β€πŸŒΎπŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈπŸͺΏπŸ„πŸπŸŒ»

My first project is organizing a BioBlitz (people come together at a place and identify all the living beings they can find) for the marsh near my apartment.

It's happening on April 25th to coincide with the City Nature Challenge.

It will be co-lead with Ryan Bartlett, a local native bee expert, who'll be bringing fun gear to safely catch insects and ID them.

Our findings will lay the groundwork for more intentional stewardship of that land.

In spring 2023, I stepped outside just minutes after the lawn had been sprayed and saw a beautiful American robin pulling worms from the same grass.
In that moment, I felt an overwhelming sense of guilt. That afternoon, I canceled the lawn service. Since then β€” and for as long as I own this property-he will be safe in my yard.

Welcome cheery poppies! #BloomScrolling #NativePlants

Two blooms of California poppies, Eschscholzia californica. The four orange petals catch the sunlight, like smooth shimmering cups

Deaf pups do lead full lives.

Geo was 6 months when he found this leaf pile in December 2025. While I will never know for sure what emotion he may be feeling, I hope this one was pure joy.

Passing this over to you in case you could use a squiggly pup moment

πŸ¦β€β¬› Has Spring nearly sprung in your hemisphere? Then it's time to think of your local birds!

🧹 Your stupid neighbors cleared away leaves and debris last Fall, leaving precious little building material for our feathered engineers.

πŸ“‰ You can help by taking a little time to make available twigs, last year's dead slender plant leaves, even natural fiber string and yarn. This will help reverse the bird declines we are seeing globally. More nests mean more chicks - and more bird song!

πŸ“’ Details are in my Habitat Gardening blog post, "Support Bird Nesting".
