It includes the construction of a new two-track tunnel connecting #NewYork & #NewJersey, which are linked by 116-year-old tunnels in such poor condition that #trains are often delayed, creating a bottleneck.
The new tunnel will be crucial to avoiding a disruption in #rail service around New York City that would have drastic effects on the national #economy.

But withholding money from the tunnel over the names of #PennStation, the busiest train station in the country, would be a significant escalation of the effort to ensure #Trump’s “legacy”, tying it to a project that would have massive ripple effects across the East Coast.
The project, known as #Gateway, sits at the heart of the Northeast Corridor #rail route that runs from Boston to Washington & is the most-used passenger line in the #US.

Today's historic photo of the day: Train S15 the Riverina XPT headed by XP2014 'City of Grafton' calls at Cootamundra, NSW, October 26 1985.
Cootamundra is 430km south of Sydney on the NSW Main South line - also the main Melbourne to Sydney interstate railway. Until November 1983, just two years before this photo was taken, it was the place where passengers changed from mainline #trains to and from connecting railmotors south to Tumut, north to Lake Cargelligo and west to Griffith via Temora.

👻🚂Locomotive graveyard. Lebanon’s ghost train stations stand frozen in time and choked by unchecked plant growth.
The first railway opened in 1895 under the Ottoman Empire. It ran from Beirut to Damascus. By the 1930s, Lebanon had joined the Orient Express network via the Taurus Express link through Homs.
After decades of decline and wartime damage, the final train service ran in 1990.

Last week, I was in a major car accident on a snowy country road. Three other cars were involved. My car is a total loss. But I'm in one piece, and that's what matters.
This was everything I hate about cars. The dangerous driving. The costs. The fear.
Ironically, I've had this series of photos from my first trip across Canada open on my desktop for a few weeks now. I was waiting for the right moment to post them, a lull in the winter season maybe, certainly not a car crash.
They are everything I love about driving. Discovery. Freedom. Movement.
For several days now, I've been replaying the accident in my mind: the car that suddenly appeared in front of me and that I hit; and the cars coming from the opposite direction that crashed into me. And yet, I can't wait to get back on the road. Discovering new landscapes and the sensation of leaving it all behind. Strange emotions.
