Managed to use the openSUSE build service (obs) to build a first project (a container) https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home:jornfranke. I followed this tutorial: https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Build_Service_Tutorial (it is about packages, but looking at existing examples I managed to build a container).

You can use it to build own distributions: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Build_Service

An impressive and very interesting service. Glad that I learned it a bit and happy to dive deeper - a very useful skill.

Because politics I'm trying to move over to #OpenSUSE for new servers. Setting up one right now, but I got to admit there are quirks I'm having trouble understanding.

Installed Leap 16 and figured out how to turn off PasswordbasedAuthentication for SSH logins, since the keyboard-thing option was unexpectedly also needed. Did it properly with a separate .conf in .d/ for just those settings. Logged in and out several times using ed25519 pki afterwards, including through a few reboots.

Ran zypper update; reboot. Now my key is no longer accepted and I cannot log back in.

Building on a solid base? #openSUSE Leap 16 offers 2 full years of maintenance and security. It's ideal for infrastructure, #desktops, and long-lived systems. Leap Micro gets the same boost with easy migration paths to enterprise-grade support when needed. #Install #Linux #Endof10 https://news.opensuse.org/2025/09/03/leap-16-doubles-support/
