Building a camera that supports AR filters, along with common controls like using the back or front facing camera, enabling flash and supporting drag up/down to zoom, while maintaining 60fps isn't easy.
The fact you can do this with javascript (and swift for AR) is pretty magical.
We do have some limitations, like enabling flash on the front camera, that requires some clever logic that uses the screen as a ring light.
That will be shipping in the next release!

Augmented Reality filters are coming to the fediverse, first with Loops and soon Pixelfed!

One of my last Loops NLnet milestones is Augmented Reality filters.
You know, like the dog ears filters.
Now this is easy for images, but quite complex for video (with real time preview while also being composited to the video stream)
I’m almost finished and can’t wait to ship this!
Oh my gosh, these AR filters are working better than expected, and I will be bringing these to the Pixelfed app later this year!
Eventually, I'd like to build an AR marketplace to allow anyone to submit 3rd party filters that could be used in our ecosystem.
Shoutout to Apple for their amazingly powerful APIs, this took a lot of researching and experimentation, there are no available libraries or packages for this...
I wonder why? 😎

Loops makes admin easy.
Want to update the About page?
Just head to the dashboard and use the markdown editor with real time preview.
You can even create custom pages that are visible on the sidebar nav, footer or neither, and limit access to users-only, guests-only or both.
Yeah, Loops has a CMS as a side feature ✨
