The Mechanically Perfect Lie
A loud noise outside my window brings back a memory from 2002. The night I truly could have died.

The Masks of Hypocrisy

Just an Old Sign
The waiting room was full, but a forgotten sign made me feel suddenly alone. Revisiting a moment when life happened all at once, leaving marks that took time to heal.
I have something to add, together with my #SelfHosting shared experience.
I use YunoHost as a domain/applications manager, and this doesn't make a system administrator (or a VPS manager) of me.
I want to be precise on this, after @scripting shared this reflection: "Trump is a president like a vibe-coder is a developer".
Meaning: "the fact you have easy access to this role, doesn't mean you have the abilities to deserve it".
Dave Winer's reflection hit me, but in the good way - if money and tech empower you more than your real competences, if you don't constantly keep your limits in mind, you'll become a disaster. Keeping the topic on vibe coding, I know at least 2 or 3 blind folks who are never been programmers but they build a couple softwares covering their own needs, through vibe coding. They share them to other blind folks as well.
Programs which interact with the Internet too.
I have very basic skills, not much in developing but in computer science. If you talk to me of arrays, constants, variables, integers and strings to make an example, I know what you're talking about. Same for "apt install", mount -umount, root, super-user, daemons and config files. Not that I know to read any single line of a .conf file but if a llm or even a document gives me an instruction, I know what it basically does.
And on this, I must be a contraddiction to @elena when she says YunoHost empowers anyone to use a self-host platform.
For basic needs it could be sufficient. But, saying that terminal is rarely needed, it's quite an illusion. I've even had to struggle with Lemmy federation, and in the end it was just the wrong date on the server, it was an hour earlier!

The Virtue of Finished Things
An email asking if my software was abandoned made me realize how the ideal of completeness has disappeared from our lives. In an era of mandatory updates and disposable goods, I reflect on the value of boring software - the kind that is finished, reliable, and simply does its job.

The Virtue of Finished Things
I've realized that I post from this instance mainly in the evening. In a way, it's like an intimate corner, the kind you retreat to at night, when the lights are dimmed and everything goes quiet. It's when the glare and clamor of the day fade away, leaving only the peace of rest. Sending posts from a device just a few meters away.
That's when the absence of an algorithm and the slow pace of the timeline become an immeasurable asset, rather than a problem.
Goodnight, world.
