From the archives: There is an electricity, an almost palpable buzz—some people won’t be convinced until they actually see King set foot on a #Dallas stage. Not everyone is happy, of course: Two hundred protesters huff and stomp outside, yelling that King is a communist. https://www.texasobserver.org/night-martin-luther-king-jr-came-dallas/

Was thinking last week that there have to be quilts honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, right? So I went looking online and ended up curating this thread for #MLKDay - enjoy!

Quilt featuring full body images of Dr. Ralph Abernathy, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and John Lewis walking with linked arms, digitally printed on fabric. The three men are superimposed over the US flag, and the red stripes of the flag are interwoven around their bodies. The lower third of the quilt is made up of cream and sepia log cabin blocks. The piece is machine quilted with an allover stipple stitch; the color of the thread both complements and contrasts in different areas.

Today’s post is an MLK Day-inspired reflection on Jessup 2026 — an international competition hosted in a state that is increasingly hostile to foreigners and regards international law as, at best, advisory.

I wrote this back in 2020 https://bikestylelife.com/2020/01/20/street-of-dreams-can-we-live-the-martin-luther-king-jr-way/. If your town has a street named after Dr. King, how well does it reflect the values he stood for? If they don't have one and they're going to propose a renaming, which street would do the most to honor his spirit?

“We have deluded ourselves into believing the myth that Capitalism grew out of the Protestant ethic of hard work and sacrifice.

The fact is that Capitalism was built on the exploitation and suffering of black slaves and continues to thrive on the exploitation of the poor - both black and white, both here and abroad.”

On #MLKDay the UFW commemorates the legacy of a courageous hero. #MLK's words are just as powerful today as when he wrote them in 1958.

"He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
