Saw the news about Wikipedia signing a deal with AI companies. I know a lot of folks aren't happy about this, but I look at this in a few ways.

  1. They're going to scrape the data anyway, so the least you can do is make money from it.
  2. The money going into Wikipedia will allow them to be sustainable for years to come.
  3. We know that wikipedia has worked hard to moderate and curate their information. So would we rather have AI believing blatant lies or pulling from sources that we trust and can verify?

I'm not going to approve or disprove of them as I don't know the real details behind the deal, but this is how I see it.

@badnetmask@hachyderm.io 鈥婣greed. Guess the question is though, will they become Firefox and wholly dependent on it? 馃槨 That is definitely a concern. But I think Wikipedia might be a better position? I hope.
