Australia is BURNING

Tuesday’s temperatures reached record-breaking levels in Victoria—49°C—forcing more than 1,000 people to evacuate due to extreme fire danger and leaving thousands of animals without food, water, shelter, or safety. The situation is also dire in New South Wales, with catastrophic temperatures forecast to hit wildlife hard, especially flying foxes whose population is decimated.

You will probably hear nothing about this on the news, but it's happening

@Geri Apple’s weather app show a high of 38 for New South Wales, that’s quite a disparity. And only 32 in Victoria, AUS. High, but not the numbers you mentioned for yesterday. Do you live there, or can you share your information source as I would appreciate knowing if I can trust my source or not, thanks

@Su_G @CivilityFan Sorry, Su. I was referring to British ppl not hearing about the matter.

I live in England and always write from a British perspective.

This is so good - like all Juice Media’s ‘Honest Government Ads’. They do sarcasm with a point like no one else. 👍

@Geri

Even if it does make the news, they probably won't mention climate breakdown - the reporting of the floods in the UK and France now rarely say such extreme weather events are an effect of climate breakdown.

@Squozen @Geri @TCMuffin Honestly, 'a few stories in The Guardian' is basically as good as not being reported at all. Many Australians still get their news from Murdoch's media empire, which spreads climate disinformation daily. Social media platforms are complicit in suppressing journalism while happily promoting clickbait, ragebait and anti-science pieces for ad revenue. eyeroll
