Trump calls wind turbines "losers". Meanwhile in Denmark, our wind turbines currently produce 92 percent of all the power consumed.
But you do you, America. 🤷🏻♂️
(I am aware this is due to the clown in charge, and not what all US citizens want)

@randahl Please help me, please. I'm sorry, I can't help. Please quote me. 🙏🏼🩷

@randahl Wind is a loser because he cannot make money off of it.
@randahl Trump will defame and/or persecute:
- anything he doesn't control
- anything that doesn't enrich him and his oligarch bros
- anyone who doesn't look like they fit his Arian supremacy profile
- anyone who doesn't agree with him
- anyone who criticizes him
Oh Donnie boy,
Your Arian eyes are smiling ...
(with no mall intent towards the heritage from which the original song and lyrics were adapted)
@randahl - just FYI, Canada is not far behind Agent Orange’s attitude towards sustainable energy thru things like wind farms. The province of Ontario shut down construction of wind farms, while Alberta banned them (and solar farms) entirely, despite both having environments that are excellent for both. Instead, they and the federal government want to promote mini-nuclear and the burning of gas and oil for electricity.
@randahl well enough US citizens voted for Trump to be president so they reap what they sow
@randahl but a majority voted him in
The fossil fuel industry takes $3 billion in profits out of local economies PER DAY.
The largest wealth transfer in history going to murderous petrostate despots like #PrinceBonesaw & Putin
Imagine what that wealth could have been used for instead.
Cures for disease. Eliminating poverty & famine.
Instead, it's wealth sitting in a kleptocrat's bank account.

@randahl Mostly true. But is it always windy?
Good thing your friendly neighbours can bail you out at times.

@randahl You should add that this makes Denmark's energy a lot cheaper too...
@randahl Wind turbines are on the same level as the invention of the wheel and the taming of fire, nothing less. If you refuse to see this, you will end up extinct. #sustainability #climatechange
@maupuo I agree. But Trump will not end up extinct. Republicans will let Europeans carry all the early innovation costs for decades while they burn cheap fossil fuel. Then, when Europe has paid these costs, the US will order wind turbines at much lower prices.
I believe, this will be the source of intense international conflict in the coming years.
@randahl Maybe! The US insists on old technology, which by the way is not cheap at all (only the necessary infrastructure is insane, let alone the rest). At the same time, renewable energies become cheaper and cheaper (and they NEVER run out). The price of all this will be influenced by geopolitics, hopefully peaceful. The US and Russia (only the governments!) are simply being stupid. They see short-term gain, but in the long run, they’ll be left behind. #sustainability #climatechange
Congratulations Denmark, in my opinion you are on the right track when it comes to renewable energy.
Here in Germany, we still have a lot of catching up to do, and our current government is proving to be particularly incompetent.
As for the Americans, I would argue that if the citizens really wanted to, they would have driven this clown out of the circus ring long ago. But they haven't.
Have a nice Sunday.
@randahl Thanks for sharing!
I notice though that this looks like a snapshot of the distribution right now, not the average consumption.
So it might be a windy moment?
I couldn't immediately find data on their site about % of MWh over a period, would be curious to know what the actual share of renewables is.
@jgivoni That is correct. This was a momentary situation.
On a yearly bassis, wind delivers around 59 percent of all power in Denmark, with less in the summer and more in the winter. This is still way ahead of the world average of 40 percent.
@randahl No solar cells? Probably just not at grand scale for public distribution I'd assume, only localized single house use which aren't counted in this statistic.
Remember that deranged nonsense #Trump spewed out about #renewables in #Germany?
Actually prices were going *down* due to cheap #wind and #solar #energy.
Even conservative counties are "keen on green", because they get to participate in the local energy production earnings.

I have never been so lucky as to go to Denmark, yet I know I love the country and its people.
America is full of people from two different Americas. Unfortunately, a majority are victimized by a minority. Thugs hold the people captive. If they ever free themeselves, look out thugs. I, a Canadian and ally to progressives, live for that day. Let freedom ring.

@randahl
Don J Quijote? 😉
@randahl It's funny. The conservative world still thinks in terms of fossil fuels and nuclear energy, the latter of which takes decades to build. Meanwhile, we are developing renewable energy sources such as solar and wind at such a rapid pace that by the time those nuclear power plants are ready, we will literally no longer need them.
@randahl T has most his money, his actual assets in real estate. And most of that is sea side. Once people believe there’s no chance to stop climate change, no chance to stop sea level rise, the value of his assets will drop to zero. It won’t happen once the water hits the stairs of the lobby but when people stop to believe the narrative. “Green energy” and wind in particular reminds people of something is at odds with this world and so he must fight it with whatever he can.
@randahl Don’t listen to him. He’s not well.
Renewable energy means an autonomous sovereign nation.
No bending the knee to fossil fuel funded fascists.
@randahl We can't do us. We have asshats in charge of approving the permits.
@randahl der blæser også en stiv pelikan (spændt på hvad folk der bruger oversættere får ud af den sætning).
Meanwhile, right now, New Zealand is running on 99% renewable electricity.
https://www.transpower.co.nz/system-operator/live-system-and-market-data/consolidated-live-data
@zl2tod that is impressive, but of course… you also have geothermal energy from Mount Doom, I suppose. 😀
@randahl
Well, from the same volcanic zone. The Wairākei geothermal plant has been generating electricity for over 60 years. It's towards the northern end of the Taupo zone, while Ngauruhoe is towards the south. I'm told I saw one of the maunga's most recent eruptions, though I was too young to remember it. We were having a family picnic in the park and my big sister spotted the ash plume
@zl2tod
@randahl
When “Trump calls wind turbines "losers"” he’s projecting - HE is the ‘BIGGEST loser (also - to be rude which I’m not because I’m a lady - he’s a BIGLY gaslighting GASBAG). 💨
I don’t know why they [people of the US] don’t fire him. 🤔
Meanwhile, other people, who live on this planet, adults, winners, Danes & Australians* & many others, get on & do the right things… as you say: “in Denmark, our wind turbines currently produce 92 percent of all the power consumed.” Yay! Good for you Denmark! Thanks for showing the way. 🙏🏻🙂
#USPol #Denmark #windPower #windTurbines #windFarms #sustainable #Australia
* we just came through a multi-day heat wave in my state, South Australia, with no loss of power; here’s our national broadcaster on the current state of power sources & costs: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-01-29/australia-hits-power-demand-record-as-renewables-pass-50pc/106280246
@Su_G that is a great result for Australia!
It is quite funny that our problems are opposite. You spend a lot of power cooling down your houses, but in Denmark most houses do not even have an air-conditioning system.
We on the other hand spend a lot of power plant energy on heating in the -10 °C winters.
@randahl we're all sharing the same planet, anyone looking to destroy it for a healthy profit should be answering to everyone, not just their own citizens. Nobody should have enough money to be able to launch shit into space. If so, they better have a reason that benefits us all, or they need to go.
Do you honestly think any significant percentage of the people on Mastodon agree with what Trump says?
@nlarson830 In my experience no one on Mastodon agrees with Trump.
Mastodon is like the inverse of X.
I am only trying to raise awareness of the advantages of green energy.
Trump is a dummy.
Every day I love Denmark a little more.
@AnnieBuddy I should make a video about Denmark one day.
I feel fortunate to live in a country which has made many intelligent political choices.
At the same time, I am not too impressed with how the very high taxes make it very hard for smaller companies.
For instance, we design a lot of furniture and clothes, but because of huge taxes on labor, you can only make a new company if it has many employees handling global logistics.
Two women making lounge chairs in a garage — no chance.
Honest question. In Denmark, are your houses heated with electricity or gaz?
I live in Quebec and most of our houses are heated with electricity, so when we hear 92% from wind turbines, it blows our minds because the largest part of our electricity usage goes to heating and it is a lot.
If your houses are heated with electricity and your produce 92% of it with wind turbines, well, I'm impressed.
@MichelPatrice 69 percent of Danish homes are heated by district heating plants. These plants primarily burn biomass like wood pellets which is CO2 neutral. The heat is distributed through large diameter well insulated pipes.
But the Danish building code requires very well insulated homes: Typically 200 millimeter Rockwool in air tight brick walls, and 300 millimeter Rockwool in the roofs.
Many homes have a backup heating source like a wood stove or a heat pump in the livingroom.
@randahl
Burning wood is not CO2 neutral. Even if you plant the same amount of trees you burn, it'll take 80 years until the CO2 is bound again. We don't have 80 years to become CO2 neutral.
@MichelPatrice
@Mr_GHARice I understand your point, but I do not think this is accurate. There is not just 1 tree in all of Europe, which is used for heating, and then we have to wait 80 years to grow a new tree.
Because trees are used for heating, we grow millions of trees all the time, which consume CO2 all the time, while our heating plants generate CO2 from burning trees. That is CO2 neutral.
@randahl
Think of burning wood like a credit card. If you're financially sound, using the card's limit isn't a problem. But we're completely indebted in terms of CO2 emissions and, so speaking, we'll have a huge problem at the end of the month. That's why burning wood is a problem.
@MichelPatrice
Than you for this detailed answer.
These district centralized heating systems are mostly unkown in Nord America.
All this is impressive.
You might need to check your sources. Maybe there is an issue with the year of that data or what power consumption it refers to:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_power_in_Denmark
The US' percent of power generated isn't as good but we do have a lot more than I thought we did:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_power_in_the_United_States
@HikerGeek my source was the Danish electrical grid live stats found here:
Oh no, now we got to invade that country ...
@randahl Anything Trump calls a "loser" is just something he and his owners don't control.
