A shortwave mid-level trough located upwind of the Great Lakes will help
to sustain various surface frontal systems, moving them southeastward
through the Great Lakes region over the next few days. This will bring
snow and wintry precipitation throughout the Upper Great Lakes and Ohio
Valley through Friday evening into early Saturday morning, before moving
into the Northeast. The Northeast will see snowfall begin on Friday
afternoon, continuing through Saturday as the systems make their way
offshore. Portions of the Mid-Atlantic, including Virginia and North
Carolina, should also expect to see precipitation, albeit lighter and in
the form of mixed precipitation and rain.

Off the back of these frontal systems, a blast of arctic air is set to
return to the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, bringing back frigid conditions
over the weekend. Additionally, as the frontal systems depart, strong
winds, potentially gusting over 50mph, will exacerbate extremely low wind
chills. Wind chill
