What do you mean? Videos from other instances?
@troed no, what i mean is there are videos published by @ folkdata @ video.folkdata.se. but none are showing in Mastodon when I look up that user.
@troed huh... It did now, for the one I just pasted the URL of...
@leanderlindahl @troed Yep. The thing is, in my view, the PeerTube app is trying it's best to fill a hole, but it's trying to dig with one hand behind it's back.
The issue is that the vast majority of PeerTube instance only allow accounts for people who are making videos. They do this to keep the spam and bad actors down and because it would take a lot of time to monitor.
So Framasoft, the people who develop PeerTube tried to make an app.
(p1)
@Mrfunkedude @troed yes, but how is that related to how videos propagate through the network (federate through the fediverse)?
When I post on pixelfed or loops it shows up on Mastodon at once as far as i know, if I seek out that account. It seems that the PeerTube account posts are not pulled in to Mastodon? But this server is only 8 hours old so maybe thats why?
@leanderlindahl @troed As long as the option is turned on all videos after they are made are sent out to the Fedi. If it isn't it's usually because of Federation issues (or slow instances).
So yeah, it COULD be because the server is new.
In the Fediverse content is pushed, not pulled. When you look up an account _no on on your instance follows_ it will also be blank, and if you follow it you will only get the new posts that account creates afterwards.
Since you're on .social, you usually don't notice this since someone on the whole server usually follows whomever you look up - but in this case no one already did :)
@leanderlindahl @troed What they didn't realize, (for some unknown reason) that because it was a video app, and because there were multiple instances, that their app would be restricted in a bunch of different ways.
So to compensate, they created the monstrosity of an app that barely resembles PeerTube.
As a PeerTube instance owner, I prefer the mobile web version.
But if I didn't have my instance and I was just a viewer, I would use Mastodon to interact with videos.

@Mrfunkedude @troed "But if I didn't have my instance and I was just a viewer, I would use Mastodon to interact with videos."
But in this case I'm exploring the account through Mastodon. And I was surprised it was blank. That's why I asked what you're supposed to do to facilitate that content (videos) gets properly propagated (from PeerTube to Mastodon)
@leanderlindahl @troed You can search #PeerTube or #video or both and see a lot of new videos. Then when you reply, or favorite, it shows up on their PeerTube video as a normal favorite and reply.
The downside is that if you find the video on PeerTube you have to copy the url and search for it in Mastodon to interact with it. (I've heard rumors it's being worked on.)
It's not perfect, but it does what it's supposed to do.
