A clipper system with a pair of cold frontal passages whipping through the
Northeast this morning will bring very gusty winds and a surge of Arctic
air today. Gusts upwards of 60-70 mph are expected through this evening,
especially across the southern Mid-Atlantic and along the central/southern
Appalachians. Additionally, a surge of brutally cold, Arctic air will
follow behind the system. Forecast highs this weekend range from the
single digits to low 20s, with numerous record-tying/breaking daily low
maximum temperatures possible. The gusty winds will bring dangerously cold
wind chills as much as 30 below zero for the Interior Northeast and into
the negative teens and single digits closer to the coast Saturday morning
through Sunday morning. These wind chills will pose a life-threatening
risk of hypothermia and frostbite to exposed skin. In addition, some snow
showers will continue into the day across portions of New England, with
some light to moderate accumulations possible, especially closer to the
coa
