Are there any immigration lawyers in the house? What's the situation just now with getting Palestinians from #Gaza refugee status in the UK? You'd think, for people suffering #GazaGenocide, it ought to be pretty much automatic, but given our xenophobic, pro-Israeli government, it wouldn't surprise me if they're all treated as terrorists.

@simon_brooke if humanitarian aid cannot reach them, how do you imagine that would work?
russians, for instance, outright bombed a mariupol shelter, marked iN RUSSIAN for their benefit as "children". and the surviving children are now freezing to death in their own homes. This is to say that imo Bibi is the same kind of creature. Otherwise crisis in Palestine wouldn't be this severe. One can defend the right of Israel to defend itself, but where is the self defense when you've just DECIMATED a country? (especially when we have footage of them SURGICALLY sending a drone into a specific apartment to kill a man in Iran, as in, they are capable of strategic, precise action, which means this was purely, soley deliberate in every sense possible, so very past self-defense against hamas threat that I no longer understand how people justify it)
@wannabekingpin I agree there's very little to choose between #Putin and #Netanyahu. They're probably both beyond shame.
But there are two ends to the problem of getting refugees from #Gaza to safety. One is getting them out of Gaza, but the other is getting somewhere else to take them in and give them homes. And although I think Netanyahu can't be shamed, I hope the UK government -- and EU governments -- can.

@simon_brooke UK, maybe. EU, doubt it. and I've another RU's example of why I think this way: we could've given UA 90 billions from russian frozen assets. It was declined not just by places like Hungary, where Orban already declared Ukraine Hungary's enemy. It was declined by the "banking countries" too. Why? Because "it would create a precedent of distrust, who would trust us then if they thought we could just take their money like this?" - maybe those who have no plans to invade another country, no? bullies being afraid, nazis, fascists, and other scum, is a good thing, they should be afraid, no?? but this stain, this shame didn't move them, so now we're giving UA a debt from EU's money, instead of RU's money, the invader is NOT paying for what it is doing. Hence I kind of doubt it'll be any better with Palestine, especially as so many of our govs are unable to recognize Israel as committing genocide (even mine), due to various allyships and whatever else they got going on.
In the 4-5 years of Ukraine being decimated, I genuinely lost hope that anything can be solved until we stop electing cowardly old men. Kallas (Estonia) is a great example of who we need, rather.
@simon_brooke apologies for pulling everything towards Ukraine, it's only because these issues seem connected to me, where example of one shows why and how we fail the other. IMO a genocide is a genocide, and there's no easier time ever than this here to support BOTH, as people of Ukraine and people of Palestine have different immediate needs. And yet, people fail even at that.
@wannabekingpin They absolutely are connected. The 'world order' in which wars of aggression, and settler colonialism, are tolerated, is at the root of it. If the international community had intervened to prevent Israel's expansion into the West Bank, would Putin have dared to invade Georgia? If he'd been sent to the Hague for Georgia, would the next Russian leader have invaded Crimea?
I'm sorry to be pulling everything towards Gaza. It's the starving people in flimsy tents that hurt my soul.

@wannabekingpin This begs the question of whether it's helpful to Palestinians to offer them homes outside #Palestine. Ideally, we should be protecting their rights to live good lives IN Palestine.
But that would require really concerted pressure being applied to Israel by the whole international community, and I just don't think that's going to happen. And meantime, we can read every day the growing despair and suffering of our friends in #Gaza.
