Germany Declares 'National Decade Against Post-Infectious Diseases'

The German government has launched a ten-year initiative to find the underlying biological mechanisms and effective treatments for post-infective diseases. The 'National Decade Against Post-Infectious Diseases' initiative commits 500 million Euros over ten years ($540 million) and will specifically focus on ME/CFS. Federal Research Minister Dorothee Bär, in announcing the strategy, noted that "The need for research is enormous: for ME/CFS and post-viral autoimmune diseases there are still no simple solutions or therapies, and previous studies demonstrate the complexity of the disease mechanisms."
