I am going to decommission my solar powered phone server this weekend. When summer rolls around, having a phone out in 110+ degrees is not a good idea.
Welp its been a fun ride. Ive been hosing my solar website https://solar.chrisco.me since October of last year. Ive learned quite a bit!
1. 6W is totally enough power for my little phone. It sips eletricity most of the time.
2. Android is not the best at hosting. I found myself having to install tool after tool within termux to get anything running.
3. The biggest downside to using a Pixel 6a for the project. The battery is terrible, even when it was new. Getting it unlocked is a pain and a half. If power ever goes out, then it doesnt restart and I have to go outside and actually push a button to turn it on.
4. The project worked! Thats the biggest takeaway. With the right old phone, I think the project could have been successful.
So the #solar panel will be used for a #meshtastic node instead.
