What came out of the first meeting of the Board of Trump?
"A lot of big words. This was essentially a big shiny object held to
celebrate Donald Trump, or, rather, for him to celebrate himself - even as
he fell asleep during the proceedings."
Trump is framing the political issue of Palestinian self-determination as a
crisis that can be resolved by throwing food, tents & re-education camps
at the victims of Israeli genocide.
To add insult to injury, Israel has been invited as a founding member of
the board. As someone said, it's like inviting Jeffrey Epstein to join the
board of Save the Children, & it would tell you everything you need to
know about such an organization.
Trump sees this board as allowing him to bring this collection of
international leaders to express their adulation of him.
Others, of course, have different priorities, many contradictory. Eg, Jared
Kushner & Tony Blair's primary objective is to make as large a buck as
quickly as possible. Other agendas are more related to Gaza & Palestine.
But unless the key political questions prevail - Israeli withdrawal, respect
for international resolutions, & Palestinian self-determination - it's all just
hot air.
And that serves Israel's purpose in allowing the status quo to continue
indefinitely.
To properly understand where we are, we need to look at what this
initiative is seeking to achieve - or, rather, to prevent.
