Here's a sneaky peek at one of the new paintings that I'm going to reveal this Friday at the Pendleton Art Center Cincinnati - during our Final Friday event from 5-9pm.

@kenSwinson Your work always has such a great use of color and tone. That narrow range of tones for the background and leaves still works incredibly well because you've alternated warm and cool colors. And then you have that much brighter area between the cardinals, as well as a few pops of brightness around the nest.
It's not just the red of the cardinals that draws your eye, the whole background pushes your eye back to them. Just beautiful work!
@paul_griffin You are too kind! Thank you! Working in printmaking has been a big help with the way I think about colors, contrasts and composition when painting. I love the freedom of being able to wipe a mistake out and try again if something in a painting doesn't work out the way i hoped it would---a lot harder to do that with a woodcut.
