As Kim Ghattas (FT) suggests the Court of the Tangerine Tyrant has no real appreciation, or understanding of global political history; they don't understand how nationalism might shape countries' political positioning; nor do they appreciate that countries (like Iran) might be playing a much longer game.
Of course, this is the obvious outcome of a US administration that sees global affairs as transactional (and rooted in the present).
