I'm doing some wool learning after a somewhat successful and somewhat failed attempt at knitting.

I keep hearing casting on is hard but that was super easy. The knitting part... well that's another story. I also think the book I'm learning from is missing some info because 'just carry on until you get the hang of it' is not a good instruction. I have questions. Hopefully my brother will answers.

#Wool #Knitting @fiberarts

A horizontal colour photograph of my legs in mustard jeans crossed on a grey sofa at the edge of the image. In front of me is a mess of wool bundles ready to be spun, an open book about sheep with a pen in it, more wool packed, and tucked in a corner a blue ball of yarn with two knitting needles stuck into it. A teal pillow is at the other end of the sofa. A brown throw drapes messily on the back of the sofa. Next to the sofa is a salmon carpet and a colourful striped carpet.

@allysseriordan It's less the casting on, in my experience, and more that working the first few rows into a cast on edge can be a lot more finicky than doing the exact same thing on top of some already-established rows. But everyone's experience varies.

At some point it does become a case of literally just practise until it clicks. But there's plenty of help to be got from other knitters before that point. You'll get there! 🙂

@thegiddystitcher thanks :)
Yeah that first row is a killer. I called my mom for help but she seems to knit differently than what the book is teaching me so couldn't answer all my questions, but that was still helpful. I'm working my needles too much like crochet hooks >.< That makes sense. That's what I learned first.

I'm sure I'll get there. It took me ages to figure out crochet (thanks to brain fog) but now it feels naturall. Until then I can laugh at the silly tangle I get the yarn into >.<

@allysseriordan Hah, we've all been there! Most of my learning was done on bus journeys so lots of old ladies looking at me with pity as I fumbled around making a mess, it's just an awkward stage we all have to push through 😄

@thegiddystitcher I now wonder if I should take my learning on bus journeys and get a bunch of old ladies to teach me as we go around town >.<
