@dansup captcha is not mindful nor demure. Captcha at best is a necessary evil and commercial captcha like hcaptcha does data farm the client which would go against the mission of a privacy respecting federated project.

simple custom captcha can actually be more effective as it requires a custom captcha solution where most bots solve captcha with existing plug ins. It's very easy to make your own simple captcha these days and there's really no reason to feed the corporate spy machine.
