We just released Bonfire 1.0.2, an update focused on giving you a more stable and reliable experience.
We're also heads-down working with several communities who are setting up their own Bonfire servers.
Plus updates on end to end encryption and federated groups.

Life pro tip: monitor your infrastructure. Screwing around with Grafana is already paying off, I might have identified my first failing SFP+ fiber module. It's still working... but 9mA to transmit -14 dBm over a short fiber run does not match at all with any other modules I have in production and seems very wrong. I'll make sure I have a spare on hand.
Thankfully this is not a mission critical line (no Owncast instances, just a Wi-Fi AP) but nonetheless, I'm already glad I took on this project.
@logan@social.logal.dev this is amazing. I don't know what this means AT ALL. But it sounds awesome and for someone hosting Owncast streams for fun shows an incredible passion we have on the Fediverse. Keep up the amazing work and thank you Sir

Did you know your average household throws away 1 forkin the garbage per week? That's why you end up needing to buy fresh cuttlery every few weeks. Interestingly, statistics show this doesn't apply to spoons or knives.

Any journalists want to write an article about all the environmental costs of the more than 10,000 Starlinks that are now in orbit? All I'm seeing are breathless articles mindlessly worshiping That Awful Billionaire for crossing the 10,000 satellite mark.
Every single one of those will come down in an uncontrolled reentry. That's a lot of metal in the atmosphere, and a lot of dice-rolling to see if any more pieces will make it to the ground.
SpaceX is truly awful.

@andypiper@macaw.social what are the odds of getting @Mastodon@mastodon.social operating costs? Per user. I don't know if they'd given full numbers or not, but if not, could we get per user?
As an open platform we have no real data on cost to user as we've all been separate. We all need to come together and figure out numbers so that when folks are attempting to sell this we can have general ideas.
YES, I know costs could waver MASSIVELY from one instance to the next. But if we can get general ideas like "$0.50/user" then we know it's not outlandish to ask for say $1.00/user so we can cover operating costs and build out our teams and networks to keep funding back into the Fediverse.
I'm on a solo instance here. But I've built it so it's over the top performance wise, and still a bit of issues but we're getting there. For this #Bonfire instance I apy $32/month.
And if someone could create a website, or a Fedi bot, or SOMETHING that could track this it'd be amazing to know. We could crowd source our data analysis for those that WANT to participate. #FediPrice #FediCost #financial #analysis #fediverse #fedi
