A1 Posting from York UK, after a good weekend camping last weekend.
We don't have swap-meets as such around here, although we have had the York Cycle Rally since about 1945, which has an element of trading in cycle parts (and full bikes/trikes) since day 1. Sadly, due to circumstances beyond the rally committee's control, the rally will move to Driffield this year and will become the Yorkshire Cycle Rally.

I've never been to a cycling swap meet, but I've got some parts laying about that would make good swap meet fodder.
I've been to a few computer swap meets, where there is usually a "dead" computer that I can fix up. And so all my computers tend to be old and slow, but rescued from the junk pile.

A1. Hi everyone. I am posting from Gloucestershire, UK.
I have never seen a swap event here. What we do have are cycle jumbles, where anyone can pay for one or more tables to sell their unwanted bike stuff. Some sellers are more business-like, but all the stuff is old or used.
I love looking through the Aladdin's Cave of stuff, even if most isn't for me.
The last things I bought were a Shimano Ultegra cassette and a bag of new Hope hub bearings from a guy who used to work as a mechanic and was selling off his stock and tools. Five bearings for £10!
I have rarely sold anything. Quite some time ago I did sell this frame from a project bike I had restored and built.

I think swaps and jumble sales tend to be part of the club scene in UK which I am not. I tend to hear of them in retrospect

I can see cycling clubs swapping parts. Especially if they race.
I got inspired also by 2nd Life Bikes and the cheap bike build off Max the Mullet Mechanic started. I want to see people getting together to help each other build cool bikes to ride for fun, for as little cost as possible. Then go ride them together!

I didn't sell this time, but came away with an ortlieb micro seatpack and a goretex bivvy too. So I guess essentially one tiny and one very large bag.

I live the idea of Ciclovia so much. And it shows what happens when streets are opened up.
@cainmark @ascentale @wolfinpdx @bikenite it provides such a great opportunity for people to enjoy themselves! There wasn’t just tons of people (all sorts) riding but also various activities along the way like zumba and dancing. CDMX has also made great strides over last decade in transit and bike/pedestrian infrastructure. Still way to many cars but much improved and would highly recommend visiting!

Travel to anywhere too far not economically viable right now. But ot would be nice to see how its changed. I remember some places were beautiful but the air was polluted. Don't know if it was from factories or cars and trucks.
@ascentale @wolfinpdx @bikenite Federating tonight from Cambridge, MA, where it's supposed to hit a balmy 48°F tomorrow. I've been to the MIT swap, but never a bike swap meet! Though I live in a cohousing community, which sometimes feels like a running swap meet ("check the giveaway cubbies"). My older kid is riding a bike handed down by another resident.

My daughter's second birthday was in the same playground on the same day as the local bicycle swap meet. I think the third one might be too since it's going to be on as close to the same weekend as calendars allow.

The few that I have been to have been attached to other events - a kids bike festival, or Marin County Bicycle Coalition's Biketoberfest event. I don't think I purchased/traded anything at either, but it was fun to browse.

I've only been to a bike swap once and ended up with a Toepeak trunk bag with expandable panniers. A very versatile accessory.
