@cavyherd yeah, I switched from Jules Verne as a small kid into the Heyne Star Trek novels in the late eighties. Those would have two-page ads for instant soup vaguely connected to the story „… I bet our heroes caught in the blizzard would love a cup of hot tomato soup right now…“
I think at that time tobacco ads were relegated to the weekly pulps like Perry Rhodan, John Sinclair or Butler Parker

I don't wanna be all "You have a plumbing problem not a relationship problem" because they clearly have relationship problems but THEY ALSO HAVE PLUMBING PROBLEMS and they can't get away with just fixing one or the other, it's gotta be both, and honestly, hand on heart, if it were me I'd start with the plumbing

Poll time! I think I overdid it: I have 7 storage classes in my cluster. There are 3 for local storage (Longhorn) and 4 for network storage (Synology). The good thing is that it gives me flexibility.
Storage classes:
- longhorn (reclaim=delete) - replicated across 2 nodes
- longhorn-retain - also replicated
- longhorn-fw1-local (reclaim=delete) - not replicated, exists only in a dedicated NVMe in the fw1 node, with much more space than the replicated classes
- {iscsi,nfs}-{delete,retain} - self-explanatory
I'm wondering if the classes with reclaim policy retain is overkill, since any important data that I care about is backed up outside the cluster anyway. Feel free to cast a vote below, but I would appreciate if you also comment why.
The narrator of the video speaks Mandarin, almost a very formal ‘tv voice’ Mandarin, which I understand (I was forced to learn Mandarin through the suppression of southern Chinese languages). I know it well but I resent it for its language imperialism.
The language spoken in the rest of the video, in the background especially among the poor people: that’s my ‘native’ language. I sound exactly like those guys. Even the way I speak Mandarin sounds exactly like those guys. I was made to feel like not sounding like a northern Chinese person meant I was bad at being Chinese, but actually I simply only connect deeply with this one specific pocket of that place.
I was very close to my grandparents who were born in Swatow. They raised me and lived with us. According to the Vietnamese Chinese aunties of San Francisco, I sound like someone who is from there. I sound like their moms too apparently.
Not having the means to express this self is weird for me. It feels like I learned to suppress that self, because I was made to suppress that language. I really want to undo that someday (and finally go).
