Grenofen Wood, Lower Walkham Valley, West #Devon

Though undoubtedly wooded for centuries, many trees there today are not ancient. From early C19th to 1880s, area was heavily mined for tin and copper, with wood for various purposes in great demand. End of mining meant regrowth of trees amongst lumps and bumps and derelict buildings. Yet it's the kind of moist sheltered habitat that creates temperate rainforest, full of almost luminous moss at this time of year.

A shot of the splayed base of a medium-sized tree covered in bright green moss, set in a woodland in winter. The woodland floor has patches of browned bracken, fallen leaves and moss. The trees and fallen branches lying horizontally are similarly covered in moss near the ground.

A shot of the river, flowing fast through the woodland. The water rushes across a weir, causing frothy swirls. Parts of the bank in the foreground are bare earth after the recent heavy rain causing the river to overflow, washing away the vegetation. Behind the ruin is a wall set into the hillside with ivy, ferns and brambles growing over it. Everything is lush and bright green.

It's time for yet another ID attempt based on insufficient evidence~ (but sufficient enough to get to crack those guides).

Found 1200m high in Vercors (France) on a tree bordering a clearing, we have *possibly* here:

- Fruticose on the left: Ramalina... farinacea? But no flour aspect...
- Brown ones: Melanohalea something?
- Foliose grey: ... Too blurry, an even unsurer Parmelina?
- Moss: something Orthotrichum?
