Elon Musk is merging SpaceX and xAI to build data centers in space — or so he says https://www.theverge.com/transportation/873203/elon-musk-spacex-xai-merge-data-centers-space-tesla-ipo

See, one of the key challenges to long term habitation in #space is #heat dissipation.
Getting energy is easy - #solar panels, no atmoshphere, you get 100% of the sun.
Waste heat however, how do you dump it? There's no air molecules to transmit heat TO. IR Radiation is how the #ISS does it, but still managing heat is a big problem. (or, u know, cooked #astronauts).
Last I heard data centers waste GOBS of heat. Space is the LAST place you want that.
#Musk is a moron.

On July 3rd, astronaut Nichole Ayers photographed a rare Gigantic jet from the ISS. These upward directed electrical discharges extend 90-100 km high into the atmosphere.
I processed this image from the RAW file, adjusting the white balance, contrast and noise reduction.

This is the recording I made from the Conn Magnet Elementary School contact with the ISS on 01/30/2026.
Because the ISS was in view of Raleigh, North Carolina, before it came into view for me you will not hear the very start of the contact.
This was only a 14 degree pass for me, but, as you can hear, the signal was plenty strong. Because I'm way too far away from Raleigh, North Carolina, you cannot hear the students asking the questions.
