A way I repurpose an old Android.
1. Wipe to factory settings.
2. Reconfigure all device settings offline.
3. Use public wifi to access F-Droid repository.
4. Download a dumb amount of F-Droid apps.
5. Take device offline.
6. Reset wifi settings.
7. Disable certificate authorities.
8. Set wrong date.
The last 2 make it harder for unwanted remote connections, excluding bluetooth and n.f.c..
To go back online, fix time and turn on certificate authorities.
I'm currently filling in for a colleague and suggested I take a look at open source on site. I showed #fdroid , #deltachat / #ArcaneChat , #simpmusic & of course #mastodon or #bluesky. People were really excited. You just have to show people the alternatives.

Ich bin kein #Android Nutzer , aber es scheint wenn man #Nextcloud nutzt, man nicht die App aus dem #Google Store, sondern die aus #Fdroid nutzen sollte. What about F-Droid? Anyone downloading apps from there can likely cope with a clearly labeled beta version. Or you could set up your own F-Droid repo for beta versions.
Also, what about Mobile GNU distros like Mobian, postmarketOS, etc? Will there be a version of the loops app for them?

I saw @yivi_privacybydesign in #Fdroid the other day and it's got me interested!
By using free IBM research "Idemix" (Identity Mixer) it allows selective data transfer, including zero-knowledge proofs (e.g. that you are over 18 without revealing age.)
Data storage is local only. Initial app development from Radboud Uni Nijmegen, a foundation now owns the brand, and a company continues development...
