"The real #value is in the #protocols themselves — but only if we can share #ownership of them.
There are billions of people who are not well served by the existing social web, particularly in global majority countries. #Opensocialweb protocols have the potential to allow them to not just build #communities that better address their needs, with features and cultural assumptions that veer far from US and European norms, but to #own them."
#MustRead: "Stronger #communities could be built on traditional #socialmedia platforms, too. But those have proven themselves to be unreliable partners: remember that referrals are down, links are being suppressed, and trusting a tech company means letting tech happen to you, like an asteroid. #Openprotocols are permissionless; building on them means building real ownership, as long as the #protocols are built with #publishers in mind."

From "#India #AI Impact Summit":
"#Opensocial #protocols offer alternative visions that, in a range of ways, can contribute to a renewal & long-term instantiation of user agency. Their #openness, meaning the ability of people to use and extend protocols in accordance with open software licences, creates the possibility of mixing and matching open social protocols with an AI agent-mediated web.
…the open social web itself may be a source of data to build #publicAImodels."

Observations:
Today #bigtech social media looks & feels like TV to me. Consume whatever each platform owners' algorithms serve.
#ATProto's ecosystem seems focused on reach & broadcasting. #ActivityPub's ecosystem seems focused on interaction. Is this the diff between #SocialMedia Vs #SocialNetworks? Newschool vs Oldschool Internet?
Would be nice if these #protocols become interoperable. Technically solvable, but I wonder are the 'cultures(?) 'interoperable as well? Thoughts?
