In talking to past coworkers, long-time friends and others on Discord, as I make my leave off that platform for #Fluxer by the end of today EST, I am reminded that my IT career only legitimately lasted from 2017-2022 if we're talking full-time employment.

Dang. All I can do is hope for better remote customer support prospects in the future. Once I get a remote job, I'd probably start downsizing and selling things to fund an expedition vehicle.

One of the things I use Discord for is the Heroic launcher server, mostly for the channel where "Gaming on Linux" news is posted.

They're investigating Fluxer as an alternative. So, I popped over, created an account, muted everything but that one equivalent channel...

... and, hmmm, I'm not sure how ready Fluxer is for this. I mute "until I turn it back on" an entire category and yet still get activity dots for the channels.

And they seem to have somewhat limited keyboard navigation (I'm used Shift+Alt+<up/down arrows> to navigate to "next channel with unread messages").

I did do a quick search to see how good Fluxer might actually be, including things like security response, but didn't come up with much. They have some form of bug bounty program, but looks like the only rewards are "kudos" and maybe some free month of their premium sub.

Can confirm #Fluxer is back up now and my community is live again. Will begin inviting friends.

Stoat, the chat application formerly known as Revolt, seems to be promising for the future home of our community. It is FOSS, can be self hosted, and free of "AI."

Now, Stoat and "AI" code is complicated. They previously pushed some commits but reverted them after community backlash. They even took it a step further and admitted the mistake and committed (pun) to no future "vibe" coding.

They reverted it, admitted it was a mistake, and said no future "AI" coding.

This is acceptable to me and I find it commendable to go back and remove the old code. I understand people make mistakes, but they can be redeemed.

Yes, video, but in https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2700353046 he spends quite a bit at the beginning of the stream discussing his research about the two, how #fluxer was apparently forced out of hiding before being fully ready for release by the #discord kerfuffle, and how he likes much more the answers that fluxer team has to a bunch of questions (accont/data deletion/export, age verification) than what #stoat has to say.
