Geology - Yosemite National Park (U.S. National Park Service)

Yosemite National Park (U.S. National Park Service)

Not just a great valley, but a shrine to human foresight, the strength of granite, the power of glaciers, the persistence of life, and the tranquility of the High Sierra.

First protected in 1864, Yosemite National Park is best known for its waterfalls, but within its nearly 1,200 square miles, you can find deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and much more.
View of Yosemite Falls from the Yosemite Valley today. Trees in the foreground have a cover of snow, though some green needles can still be seen (right). The sky (upper left) shows a bit of blue, along with delicate white cloud forms. The rock walls, colored tan, grey, and black, show off snow piles here and there. The flowing water of the falls bisects the image.
