As a result, #NickReiner, 32, did not enter a plea Wednesday. He had been represented by Alan Jackson, a well-known lawyer whose clients have included Harvey Weinstein & Kevin Spacey [so, not great guys]. Judge Theresa McGonigle rescheduled Reiner’s arraignment for Feb 23 & assigned his case to Kimberly Greene, a #PublicDefender.

After conferring with the judge in her chambers, Jackson said in the courtroom that “we feel we have no choice” to withdraw from the case, without elaborating.
In a statement to The NYT, a spox for the Reiner family said, “They have the utmost trust in the legal process & will not comment further on matters related to the legal proceedings.”
The state charges included the aggravating factor of multiple murders, meaning that if #NickReiner is convicted he will face the possibility of #life in #prison without a chance at parole or the #DeathPenalty. Prosecutors have not said whether they would seek capital punishment; Gov. Gavin Newsom put a #moratorium on #executions in #California in 2019. [were he to lift the moratorium for this case, he’d have to lift to for all.]
@Nonilex I just keep feeling his sister finding their parents, and that indelible horror delivered to the whole rest of the family by being sensationalized before the blood is even dry. And now they have to figure out how to deal with the aftermath. Nick has clearly never been able to get it together personally, but now they have to watch him tried for murder, and no matter the outcome, disaster at every turn for all of them. What's worse than a living nightmare?
