EU is calling for comments on open source strategies. MAKE YOURSELF HEARD!

Even non-EU citizens have a voice here.

NOW is a time to stand up and stand out! YOU want to help the Fediverse? Here's just one way today that YOU can REALLY make a difference:

The European Open Digital Ecosystem Strategy will set out:

  • a strategic approach to the open source sector in the EU that addresses the importance of open source as a crucial contribution to EU technological sovereignty, security and competitiveness
  • a strategic and operational framework to strengthen the use, development and reuse of open digital assets within the Commission, building on the results achieved under the 2020-2023 Commission Open Source Software Strategy.

I think it is detrimental to the foss ecosystem to allow state intervention, guidance, control or influence on something that by desing it is meant to have no borders, no nationalities, races, genders, ethnicities, and above all corporate fans.

Linus set a dangerous precedence to allow US boycott affect development, and defended his choice on pure nationalistic bias.

Now this, an EU attempt to make foss a tool, to set standards and guidelines.

It will not end well EU=bad

@yianiris@kafeneio.social I think the current system of proprietary big tech is a larger issue at the moment. With EU funding open source it'll push it event faster than it has been going. They will have alternatives to the US big Tech and they can make their own rules for themselves. Every country should be focused here and we can all build off each other.

I do agree that the EU could so bad things. They exist to govern the EU people and their morales might not be mine. But more competition is better IMO. Open standars are better for everyone compared to what we currently face.

It is true, more true than other parts of the world, that EU has been shoving corporations as middle men between state and citizen (google-android apps for state services for example) even identifying citizens by google/apple verification through phones.

In this respect not only is corporate non-open non-free software relevant but as a constitutional issue of forcing corporations in between state and citizen/resident.

I don't know how universal across EU is also work compensation via private banks (are there any state banks left?) and to obtain a bank account and have access to it the list of criteria has grown to more than a page long.

So if private banks say you are not eligible for an account you are not eligible for legal work, which is the next worst thing in #capitalism as #ICE shooting you in the back of the head.

And I can go on and on
about the EU (Hitler's dream)
