Judge Paul A. Engelmayer was told in a letter signed by #USAttorney Jay Clayton that he must reject a request this week by the congressional cosponsors of the #EpsteinFiles Transparency Act to appoint a neutral expert.

US Rep #RoKhanna (D-CA) & Rep #ThomasMassie (R-KY) say they have “urgent & grave concerns” about the slow release of only a small number of millions of documents that began last month.

In a filing to the judge Khanna & Massie said they believed “criminal violations have taken place” in the release process.

#USAttorney Clayton, though, said Khanna & Massie do not have #standing with the #court that would allow them to seek the “extraordinary” relief of the appointment of a #SpecialMaster & #IndependentMonitor.

Engelmayer “lacks the authority” to grant such a request, he said, particularly because the congressional representatives who made the request are not parties to the criminal case that led to Maxwell’s December 2021 #SexTrafficking conviction & subsequent 20-year prison sentence for recruiting girls & women for #Epstein to #abuse & aiding the abuse.

@Nonilex “are not parties to the criminal case” but that’s not what Massie and Khanna want the court to enforce, it’s the document release law, so why is the criminal case relevant?

“We are informing the Court of serious misconduct by the Department of Justice that requires a remedy, one we believe this Court has the authority to provide, & which victims themselves have requested,” Khanna said in a statement.

“Our purpose is to ensure that #DOJ complies with its representations to the Court & with its legal obligations under our #law,” he added.

In their letter, Khanna & Massie wrote that the DOJ’s release of only 12k documents out of >2M documents being reviewed was a “flagrant violation” of the law’s release requirements & had caused “serious trauma to survivors.”

“Put simply, the #DOJ cannot be trusted with making mandatory disclosures under the Act,” the congressmen said as they asked for the appointment of an independent monitor to ensure all documents & electronically stored information are immediately made public.

It's such a shame that there isn't a way for *all* survivors of sexual trauma to be "party" to the Khana/Massie law in that we're being triggered with every news story, and the longer the DOJ takes drawing this out the more we are injured. Day after day after week after year...
