The Mastodon team is introducing https://help.joinmastodon.org, a "place where people can learn how to use Mastodon’s software [and] more information about participating on mastodon.social in a healthy, safe, and accessible way".

@jaypeach53 Yes, this part confused me a bit.

The page at https://help.joinmastodon.org/article/13-fediquette-community-etiquette-guide is titled "Fediquette" and refers to the fediverse in large, but then mentions "our rules".

Fediquette: A Community Etiquette Guide

The social web—also known as the fediverse—is full of passionate people who care deeply about improving accessibility and respecting consent. This guide to our

@stefan It looks very much like a Beta-Beta-version. 😉 And is only for mastodon.social? 🙄

I stay with https://fedi.tips and @FediTips

@NatureMC @stefan

Interesting, I didn't know about that!

And yes does seem like it's just a beginning of something rather than a finished product, will be interesting to watch as more sections are added.

I'm guessing it's intended to be more friendly towards ordinary users than the current documentation page at https://docs.joinmastodon.org.

By the way the new community manager has been very friendly and patient in response to queries. There's a good interview with her at https://tubefree.org/w/x715zm1Nkvqd8xYWtgVGB9

RE: https://mastodon.social/@Mastodon/116097571386912561

@FediTips Yes, she's great in listening to people. We have the direct discussion about the topic here: https://mastodon.online/@Mastodon@mastodon.social/116097571771284650

And it's interesting for the context and background!

@NatureMC Yeah, definitely an early version, but nice to see the effort! Looking forward to seeing this develop more.

@stefan For me, it's very much too "techie" and often too long/complicated for real newcomers from big platforms. Also a problem with screenshots: they can look so different depending on the apps.

@ErickaSimone Also, more directly addressing tone policing and non-admins enforcing (often unwritten) rules that may differ between servers/communities.

Actually, looking at https://help.joinmastodon.org/article/13-fediquette-community-etiquette-guide, I wonder what "our rules" here means.

The article is titled "Fediquette" and mentions the fediverse, but also switches to Mastodon in a few places where it makes sense.

But then maybe it should say:

"behaviour you don't like, but that does not violate rules of your community/server"?

@stefan this is kind of what needs clarification on this site. What is and isn’t allowed overall. They won’t do a proper press release which means there nothing to define or conform to. Exhausting.
