This isn’t new news as such, but people keep being surprised by it, so it’s worth repeating. I've long refused to subscribe to any newsletter on Substack, and contacted a few folks encouraging them to move — unsuccessfully.
Maybe this reporting from The Guardian will give some publishers the push they need to change platforms. And encourage some readers to drop any Substack subscriptions they have.

We can't 'fix' Substack or X, but we can clean and protect our own house, we can be good stewards of our own digital footprint. After the technically easy part of canceling subscriptions and deleting Substack or X accounts, we can at least move in the direction of not sharing Substack or X material.
I'm not innocent or an angel, but I'm at least at the self-honest stage that I have been complicit, moving past subscription and deletion...

It's a major component of Turtle Island moderation theory - We can't 'fix' the #Fediverse; We can't 'fix' #Mastodon. It's impossible, and even if every member here were a moderator, every one of us would be moderating 24/7/365 and still failing.
But we can clean and protect our own house. We can be good stewards of our own digital land.
Likewise with Substack or X, minimally we can cancel subscriptions and delete our accounts.

#Substack openly platforms—and profits from— #Nazis. And not just nudge-nudge-wink-wink types of Nazis, but literal black-swastika “NatSoc” Nazis. And they recommend Nazi writers.
If you are still on Substack either as a reader or publisher, please seriously consider leaving the platform. It’s a Nazi bar. You don’t want to give them your money or your attention. I hear ghost dot org is a great, Nazi-free alternative.
