@nekoow7 This is what works for me; others have argued with it, hence the disclaimer.
1) if nasal congestion is involved, don't snuffle it back into your nose. Blow it out as much as you can. Same with anything that you cough up. Don't let it stay in your system.
2) If it's a dry cough, the tea and honey bit will help. If it's a productive cough (bringing up stuff from your lungs) you want to promote that, even if it's uncomfortable. A steamy shower usually works for me, but boiling water and breathing the steam there works too.
Appropriate medicines are your best bet to relieve symptoms, over the counter or prescribed.
Whatever crap your body is trying to get rid of, get rid of it.
Any cold or flu that I've gotten since that realization has passed much faster when I'm not snuffling the gross down my throat. Bedtime is usually the worst for this (for me) because your body will do what's easy to let you sleep.
