Techbros are weird and not all the smart.
How it started… How it’s going! A HUGE thank you to everyone who came to the rescue & helped support independent journalism in this darkest of years. We lost our news organisation…but we built a new one! @thenerve_news 🙏🙏🙏

Ukrainians Plan Holiday Spending Carefully, Prefer Meaningful Gifts – Deloitte
Ukrainians are keeping budgets modest, prioritizing family and charity, and favoring human judgment over AI tools, a Deloitte Ukraine study finds.
2025: Web pages vanished. Links broke. Public data disappeared. But the Internet Archive kept the receipts.
From investigations by The New Yorker and The New York Times to video features from the BBC and CNN, these stories show why preserving the web became one of the year’s defining information battles. ➡️ https://blog.archive.org/2025/12/22/top-news-stories-about-the-internet-archive-2025/

Ugh, gross…
Person “A” asks for “new inappropriate friends” in email from British royal family’s Scottish home [I think we all know it’s Andrew]
A series of emails from Aug 2001 shows correspondence between #GhislaineMaxwell & a person with the alias “A” that appears to be connected to the #BritishRoyalFamily.
“I am up here at Balmoral Summer Camp for the Royal Family” wrote “A” in an email to Maxwell on Aug 16, 2001.
#EpsteinFiles #law #PrinceAndrew #Epstein #rape #pedohilia #SexTrafficking
…In emails signed by “A” from an email address appearing as “The Invisible Man,” the correspondence continued:
The person in the email is not explicitly identified as #AndrewMountbattenWindsor, but he was introduced to #Epstein in 1999 by GhislaineMaxwell, Epstein’s then-girlfriend.
In Oct, #Britain’s royal family stripped Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly #PrinceAndrew, of his titles & ordered him out of his 30-room residence in the grounds of Windsor Castle, due to his association with Epstein.
I get asked a lot lately what I think people who want to get into cyber security should focus on. My go to answer is incident response, since it seems like the mountains of vibe code and half-assed zero trust architectures is creating galactic scale potential breach energy. Would that be called vibe responders? Or is that for when we figure out how to hand over IR to AI as well?
@jerry I am glad and congratulate myself for having stopped sticking my nose into cybersecurity and going back to programming in Linux, just for the art. The bugbounty scene, in particular, has been filled with Mac kids playing with AI.
Being sucked into #monopoly enforcement against #gatekeepers around the world has given me direct insight into why #AntiTrust enforcement is so important economically: monopolists spend huge sums on PR to sell things that people do not want. Organizations like @fdroidorg can spend next to zero money and some hours of volunteer time to pop PR bubbles that surely cost many millions. The money is so concentrated that lots is thrown at even stupid ideas just because the monopolists want it that way.
IMHO - you shouldn't use BIG-IP F5 directly internet facing in 2025 if it's critical infrastructure, have it behind a cloud WAF and have the origin firewalled off to just the WAF service.
@GossiTheDog Also, your sonicwall, fortinet, and palo altos firewalls should be behind a firewall and not exposed to the internet
As a certified #beunHaas , when it comes to sysadmin stuff, upgrading OS releases and migrating clusters to new postgres versions there is always a fresh dose of existential dread for my systems. Luckily, after breaking the VPS running #mastodon only twice we are back up with the latest and greatest.
And yes I really should switch to some form of docker hosting, but psychologically I am just not there yet 😅
According to @tchambers's My 2026 Open Social Web Predictions:
Fedify will power the federation layer for at least one mid-sized social platform (500K+ users) that adds ActivityPub support in 2026. The “build vs. buy” calculation for federation shifts decisively toward “just use Fedify.”
We're honored by this recognition and will keep working hard to make #ActivityPub adoption easier for everyone. Thank you, Tim!
This is a bonfire demo instance for testing purposes
