The power of counter culture protest is exponentially increased in the digital society. I wonder if any media academics are researching this kind of thing? Let's hope so.

Wegen Fasnachtsmontag heute kein Unterricht. Sitze also mit imaginärem lustigen Hütchen auf am Schreibtisch und bereite Unterricht vor
Just told the coauthors that I can’t work on the abstract now, sorry

Thank you guys for the #boost. But I am still looking for more dynamicists and nonlinear dynamics lovers ☀️🙏
People not mincing words: "The whole academic system is fucked."

Conference day 1: clean shaved faces. Nice open hair. Hugging people you haven't seen for a year. Asking your overseas colleagues how the jetlag is doing. Slowly starting up discussions, with mostly senior folks involved.
Conference day 4: stubble. (Unwashed) Hair in braids. Rings under the eyes. Quietly nodding to each other over the 3rd cup coffee before the start of the first session. Heated but friendly back and forth in every discussion session between everyone.

This is a very good summary of the current state of open source development and a way forward.
But, also, the same critique applies to the current "open science" situation in academia. The same issues persist. People don't want to play it slow - pay dues and build trust.
But no, academics want citations or as @Daojoan put it " their GitHub activity graph to glow green for recruiter eyeballs".
Open source has an open slop problem.
And I think the solution is one that would've been perfectly obvious to a thirteenth-century Florentine weaver...

Devastated to discover that there is only one Trekkie among my students, and he hasn't even watched Voyager.

Conferences in your home town are actually the worst: you are as tired as when you are travelling but on top of that your whole house is a pigsty because nobody cleans up after you as opposed to a hotel.
