I've decided to use #lemmy (or to be precise, a TTRPG-specific instance) some more for discussing #ttrpg -related topics.

I mean, Mastodon is fine, but the very nature of the feed makes it difficult to keep long-term discussions going - an actual discussion forum like Lemmy is much better for that.

And thanks to the magic of the Fediverse, Mastodon users can contribute to the discussions there anyway (and so can those of most other Fediverse systems).

One of the things I like best about Mastodon is that there are far fewer people looking for an excuse to put others down. I mean, other people on Mastodon. Not people in general, particularly if Trump is considered a person.

On Reddit you have to worry about any number of assholes who are just panting with lust to sneer at people and their posts. It's like they have to prop up their egos by putting others down. There's some of that on Lemmy, too. Mastodon, far less so. And of course you can always block or mute those people. But it's a lot less work on Mastodon!

Today I discovered #PieFed. It's a link aggregator like #Lemmy or #KBin ( Which has become #MBin ?), and it federates with those services, but has its own take on the user experience that I actually quite like. For one, when you sign up you get asked to select topics of interest and it automatically subscribes you to a variety of communities across the #fediverse related to those topics to help you get started.

Cool that I was able to post a new topic in a #Lemmy community just by posting with an @mention of its fediverse actor; @flounder@lemmy.ml

But I note that the @mention in the first sentence wasn't included in the topic title, which ended up as;

"TIL that has a Lemmy community"

I guess I could try to fix that by editing the post?

EDIT: that worked, and instantly too! Great stuff @LemmyDev and @Mastodon! Compatibility has improved a lot since Lemmy started to openly federate.
